Biography

Mariom Manjury Nishe is a Bangladeshi-born visual artist currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Painting at the University of South Dakota. Her practice centers on non-objective abstraction, with a focus on color, rhythm, and layered surfaces. Nishe experiments with diverse materials, including foam board, wood, cardboard, and irregular supports, to extend the boundaries of traditional painting.

She received both her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, where she first developed her commitment to abstraction. Her influences include Kandinsky’s expressive visual language, Rothko’s atmospheric color fields, Pollock’s gestural freedom, Murray’s shaped canvases, and Conover’s textured surfaces.

Nishe has exhibited her work in Bangladesh and the United States. Alongside her studio practice, she is dedicated to art pedagogy and to advancing abstract art as a transformative experience for both artist and viewer. Her future plans include completing her MFA at the University of South Dakota, exhibiting her abstract work nationally and internationally, and continuing to expand her artistic practice through teaching, research, and professional opportunities.
